LES distensibility & GERD

Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) is a disease that manifests itself as severe heartburn caused by acid refluxing up into the esophagus from the stomach or the regurgitation of stomach contents back up into the esophagus. GERD affects 5-7% of the worldwide population daily.

Dysfunction of the valve between the esophagus and stomach, known as the gastroesophageal junction, is thought to be the prime cause of GERD. Despite this, no clinically acceptable test is available to assess this valve, until EndoFLIP®.
